GIMP is an open source image manipulation software. Similar to Adobe Photoshop, it is used for various image manipulation tasks such as photo editing, graphic designing, illustration, etc. During the pandemic lockdown and after the end of my final semester, I have taken up the task to learn the means of graphic designing to create a livery for my sim racing hobby.
Sim Racing risen in popularity during the pandemic as many real life events are cancelled. As such, racing events have started to look into sim racing to simulate the events that happen in real life. Sanctioned events such as F1 Virtual GP at Albert Park and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual. These events often time require real life teams to create and export their livery into the simulation. This if often done using image manipulation software such as Adobe Photoshop.
Creating your own custom livery allows for other people to identify you better on track while also showing off your unique and creative livery. Based on the program used and the event participating, liveries are shared around through third party software, such as Trading Paints for Iracing and SRS Skin Transfer app for events organized by Sim Racing Systems for Assetto Corsa.
