PO Attainment: 4/5
This programme outcome (PO) is attained through the Mechanical Engineering Group Project (MEGP) module. For this module, my group has designed and manufactured an autonomous coconut de-shelling prototype. This project aimed to reduce the risks and injuries of workers when de shelling a coconut. The prototype for the project aimed to distance the cards of the worker from the machine as far as possible. Distancing the hands of the workers from the machine also solves possible health risks as food contamination from human contact and injuries can be reduced.
Another module that allowed me to attain this PO is the Engineering Design and Ergonomics module. My team had decided on conceiving and designing an ergonomic food trolley for use in food courts. My tear found that cramp conditions in food courts affected the ability to carry food out of a trolley that contained multiple layers. The need of heading over to carry heavy food out of the trolley also put a lot of stain to a person's back. The ergonomic food trolley aimed to solve this challenge by introducing a foldable tray design that was able to reduce the Talley food print while not in use while having a height adjustable tray to eliminate the need for bending over then taking food out of the trolley.
