Ergonomic Food Trolley

Portfolio: Ergo Portfolio.pdf

Ergonomics is important in engineering to reduce the strain on our bodies when using tools and appliances. This project was conducted for the module Engineering Design and ergonomics to improve the ergonomics around the campus area. My group identified the need for an ergonomic food trolley that can be used in the food court in campus.

To determine the optimum height of the trolley, anthropometry data was used as reference. This allowed the team to understand the average height of Malaysians for male and female. This is important to ensure that the correct posture is achieved when lifting food out of the trolley. This can reduce strain on the back of the user.

The design of the trolley involves a rotating chain belt, that carries the trays to different heights. This is used to adjust trays at different heights. To ensure the tray is stable and flat, wires are attached to the far end of the trolley, onto the chain belt. Wires are used to allow for the tray to fold in when the trolley is not in used. When storing, the trays will overturn to the back of the trolley, and the tray will be folded. Reducing the footprint of the trolley when not in use.
